Portraits: Faces of Jazz

I first ran across these browsing Flickr a few years ago while they were still works in progress, bookmarking them away for a day when they’d resurface, completed. That day has finally come! I’ve seen the complete set no less than twice in the last week on the interwebs, so I knew I was ready to revisit and see what had happened with them since 2009.

Here’s what the artist himself, Oliver Barrett, had to say about them:

I was inspired to create a series of portraits of my favorite iconic jazz musicians. I assigned one musician to myself per month for six months during 2009. The result was John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Max Roach, and Charlie Parker in six different prints in blue, paying homage to Blue Note Records.

As you can see, they are now completed, look wonderful, are all posted to a Flickr set called Faces of Jazz, and are available for purchase via Imagekind. I’ve got a couple coming in the mail…
